The objective of the *World Radio Day* is to raise public awareness of the importance of radio and to encourage decision makers to use it to provide access to information, and to improve international co-operation among broadcasters.
The theme for the 12th edition of the World Radio Day, celebrated on Monday February 13th 2023 was “Radio and Peace“. UNESCO highlights independent radio as a pillar for conflict prevention and peace-building. SAQ Grimeton Radio Station from Sweden was first observed Radio Day in 2011
On Nov 3, 2011, UNESCO declared February 13 as World Radio Day because on the same day United Nations Radio was first established in 1946.
The venue for this event was All India Radio Pune’s Shivaji Nagar Auditorium
The event was open to all. AIR Pune gave a pleasant surprise arranging visits to their studios. 20 school students and attendees enjoyed the conducted tours.
The celebration started exactly at 03:55PM after the Assembly of Radio Listeners. Hams and SWLs
At 4:00 PM VU2VPR Vilas Rabde, from Pune Hams & Tech Forum gave Introduction to International Radio Day.
At 04:10 PM, Warm welcome was given by Mr Adhir Gadpale, DDG, Head & Mr Indrajeet Bagal, ADP, Programme Head, AIR Pune. Both shared the History of Pune AIR from the program & technical side respectively. Mr Gadpale gave a powerpoint technical presentation covering the beginning of Transmissions to latest Radio Technology like DRM. DRM is the universal, openly standardised digital broadcasting system for all broadcasting frequencies, including the AM bands (LW, MW, SW), as well as VHF Bands I, II – (FM band) and III.
Live DRM display was arranged by AIR engineers and explained its wonderful features.
At 4:25PM *Mr Vishwas Kale*, well known Industrialist, gave lively Presentation in simple language on Radio Day theme “Radio and Peace”. It was very well received by more than 200 Radio listeners and students
At 5:05PM Deepali Akolkar & Satish Rajhans conducted Quiz Contest on Radio. The students gave correct answers for complex terminologies of Radio engineering. The Price Distribution for contest winners was immediately conducted after the contest.
At 5:40 PM Mrs Nilima Patwardhan, Program Executive, AIR Pune, Proposed Vote of Thanks
The program ended with High Tea.
At 6:00PM all Visited to Display of Vintage & Modern Radios by Mr Dilip Bapat, Alibag & Mr Vaidya Pune.
The beautiful Rangoli welcoming all guests was one of the attractions.
The event was closed at 6:30PM. However, AIR studio visits continued till 7:30 PM
