World Telecom day Celebration on 17th May 2023

17 May marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as ways to bridge the digital divide.

Pune Hams VU2RCP along with IEEE Communications society,  AISSMS IOIT, Tech Forum  &  PMA  celebrated World Telecommunication  Day on Wed 17th May 2023 in AISSMS IOIT Auditorium  

Padmshri Pramod Kale, ex Director ISRO was chief Guest. 

The meeting started with Saraswati Poojan and lighting of the lamp.

SWL Reshma Pawar of IntelQ introduced the chief guest in detail based on his enclosed biodata.

Nearly for one hour students  interacted with Padmashri Pramod Kale under *”Meet the Scientist”* theme.The students asked very intelligent Questions

Padmshri Pramod Kale, ex Director ISRO gave Presentation on World Telecommunication day theme.  Theme for the year 2023 is “Empowering the least developed countries through Information and communication technologies. He covered brief history of Telecom Technology and explained how India is supporting rural areas through Information Technology

Padmashri Kale explained in detail about his flagship assignment in ISRO….Satellite Instructional Television Experiment or SITE was an experimental satellite communications project launched in India in 1975, designed jointly by NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The project made available informational television programs to rural India. The main objectives of the experiment were to educate the financially backward and academically illiterate people of India on various issues via satellite broadcasting, and also to help India gain technical experience in the field of satellite communications.
