Monthly Eyeball QSO on 4th May 2025

Pune Hams VU2RCP monthly Eyeball QSO commned yesterday morning i.e.Sunday 4th May 2025. More tha 15 Hams & SWLs attended the Eyeball QSO

The meeting started with networking and introduction to newcomers.

SWL Vaibhav Savant came for the first time. He is interested in Radio Astronomy and worked in Ireland.

Yogesh Nair celebrated his ASOC exam results by distributing Samosas to every one. Yogesh works for LIC of India.

VU3ZAG – Sooraj Shenoy
B.E Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Profession: Technical Lead SME – Telco & Digital Transformation.

Experience: 13 Years.
Hobby area: RF and Antenna Design.

The Presentation by Sooraj VU3ZAG on “Homebrewed APRS Wx Reporter,” started exactly at 10:00 AM

Please visit his Youtube Channel : https://www.youtube.com/@vu3zag

The homebrewed APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) WX station combines weather reporting with APRS functionality. It continuously broadcasts real-time weather data, including temperature, humidity, and wind speed, via TCP to the APRS-IS server.

An APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) based weather reporter utilizes amateur radio technology to share real-time weather data and information. This system allows users to report weather observations, forecasts, and alerts, making it a valuable tool for situational awareness and emergency preparedness, according to APRS.org.

Additionally, Sooraj have integrated a feature that locates VHF/UHF repeaters by transmitting their coordinates, which are then plotted on the aprs.fi map, making it easier for amateur radio operators to identify repeater locations and frequencies for communication.

These stations enhance both weather monitoring and repeater plotting in the Bharat region.

To set up an APRS-based weather reporter, you’ll need a weather station, a radio with APRS capabilities, and software to generate and transmit APRS packets .The weather station measures and the software formats the data, which is then transmitted via the radio to APRS-IS.

SWL Shirish Deshmukh, President DEMA, shared his experience about Agni Missile and talked about India’s preparedness for Defence

VU3ZNE OM Parth’s 21 cm Radio Telescope is re-located at Padmashree. It is fully operational. Thanks to Makarand and Shirish who supported installation. It was was a star attraction of Eyeball meet

A 21 cm radio telescope is a Galaxy observation type of radio telescope designed to detect the 21 cm hydrogen line, a spectral line emitted by atomic hydrogen.

This line is important in astronomy because hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, making it a useful tracer for studying the distribution of gas in galaxies and the structure of the early universe.

The 21 cm line is a spectral line at a wavelength of 21 centimeters (or 1420.405 MHz frequency) emitted by atomic hydrogen. This line arises from the “spin-flip” transition of the hydrogen atom’s electron, where it changes from an aligned to an anti-aligned spin state. The 21 cm line is a narrow and well-defined line, making it a valuable tool for studying the distribution and velocity of hydrogen gas in galaxies and other astronomical objects.

The Radio Telescope will soon be kept open for School students interested in Radio Astronomy

Thanks to Ranga VU3IZK for donating White board, sketch pens and stand. It will immencly help presenter. He is also interested in creating library at VU2RCP Club

The next Eyeball QSO will be 1stJune 2025 Keep first Sunday morning in June Free for Eyeball QSO
