Pune Hams Eyeball QSO – May 2026

The monthly Eyeball QSO of Pune Hams (VU2RCP) was successfully held on Sunday, 3rd May 2026 at 10:30 AM.

Networking & Celebrations

• The meeting began with a Networking High Tea sponsored by OM Dattaatray Ghadge (VU34DG).
• Datta ji shared his inspiring journey of completing 35 years of Mayur Auto Electricals, Shikrapur.
• His message to new hams: “Any problem can be solved with proper devotion and effort.”

Academic Outreach

• Dr. Swati Gandhi (HoD, E&TC) joined for the first time.
• She introduced the new Communication B.E. course at Anantrao Pawar College of Engineering (AP CoE) and expressed interest in starting a Ham Club there.

• Pune Hams is now mentoring the following institutions:
  1. MIT WPU
  2. Ajeenkya DY Patil University, Charoli
  3. Dhole Patil College of Engineering, Kharadi
  4. Army Institute of Technology, Dighi
  5. AISSMS College of Engineering
  6. Anantrao Pawar College of Engineering (newly added)

Film Screening

• OM Aniruddha (VU3FML) presented the Canadian film “Leur existence” on amateur radio, where he is featured.
• The film has already won recognition at film festivals and was warmly received by the gathering, though it is yet to be officially released.

Technical Presentations

• Battery Management for Ham Radio – by OM Aravind Krishnan (VU3HUF)
  • Covered battery chemistry, form factors, and comparisons.
  • Explained applicable Indian standards, how to select quality batteries, and safety aspects including thermal runaway.
  • Detailed the role of Battery Management Systems for portable applications.
  • Aravind is a senior engineer at ARAI Pune, specializing in battery testing.
• Solar Power for Field Days – by OM Aniruddha (VU3FML)
  • Presented his solar‑powered field day power pack.
  • Demonstration video available on his YouTube channel: Solar Power Pack Demo.
  • Plans are underway to conduct a workshop on this useful tool.

Upcoming Workshop

• The LarcSet Workshop on HF Signals by OM Sooraj (VU3ZAG) is scheduled for 10th May 2026 and is already fully booked.

Community Spirit

The May Eyeball QSO showcased the vibrant mix of technical learning, academic outreach, and camaraderie that defines Pune Hams. With active participation from hams and SWLs, the session strengthened the club’s role as a hub for innovation and mentorship in amateur radio.
